Welcome to Troop 617
Troop 617 is located in Prattville, Alabama, & is chartered by VFW Post 1349. Scouts provide the leadership for Troop 617 within the confines of the policies, programs, and the spirit and intent of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 617 will maintain an active schedule with camping, community service, leadership, and advancement. We believe that these activities are the cornerstones to the development of young adults who are responsible and live the virtues of scouting.

Always Be Prepared
About the Boy Scouts of America:
The goal of the Boy Scouts of America - incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916 - is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations.
Aims and Methods of the Scouting Program:
The Scouting program has four specific objectives known as the "Aims of Scouting." They are character development, citizenship training, physical and mental fitness, and leadership development.

Council
Scouts BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts) is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement, and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.
Troop 617 is in the Frontier District of the Tukabatchee Area Council. The local scout shop can be found inside the Council office. They are located at 3067 Carter Hill Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.
